Is UM a record label?

No, we are NOT a record label. We are in the business of providing resources that will establish, enhance and empower independent urban artists.

 
Why “urban” music?

Simple, because it is what we know. We would be doing a disservice to our network if we were not focusing on our strengths. Instead of taking on every genre of music, we have focused on independent urban music in order to promote our resources effectively. However, some of our services are for ANY genre of music and we encourage other genres to use our services in order to assist them in their careers.

 
How do I become a member of Urban Melodies?
To join our network, you would just register by clicking HERE. The registration will give you free services and connections into the Urban Melodies network. Each division of Urban Melodies has a separate way to register so we encourage you to visit each resource in order to access the MANY services we provide to independent urban artists.

How do you differ from other companies that provide services?
Since we focus primarily on the Urban, Independent market, it allows us to specialize in creating the services that will establish, enhance and empower our niche market. Many companies specialize in different aspects of providing services to independent artists, but UM is dedicated to providing ALL the essential services that will make our artists successful.
 
How do I get my CD featured on the home page?
If you are a registered member of UM Music Store, please email us at info@urbanmelodies.com and let us know that you would like to be featured on the home page of UrbanMelodies.com. We will review the requests and contact you to let you know of your approval.

I want to distribute my music, how do I do that through your site?

Please visit UM Music Store to register to become an artist or record label so we can distribute your music. We provide complete distribution services, online and offline, for our artists and record labels.

 
What is the main advantage of distributing my music with UM over other distribution sites?
UM Music Store is genre-specific so it allows us to market heavily in the areas where consumers purchase independent urban music. We are also affiliated with all of the major distribution channels to allow our artists and record labels more resources for their distribution needs.
 
Will UM help me sell my CDs in stores?
We are affiliated with offline distribution channels that service record stores across the world. Depending on your budget and marketing plan, UM can assist you in having your music in record stores around the world.
 
How can I promote my CD sales on your website?
We encourage our artists to promote their location on UM Music Store as frequently as possible. From links from their artist’s website to their MySpace pages, it is important to link your sites to point to your distribution channel to allow more CD sales. You can also promote your UM page (www.ummusicstore.com/yourname) at your events, fliers, business cards, media kits, interviews, etc., in order to create more ways to sell your music through us.
 
How easy is it to buy music from the UM Music Store?
When a consumer comes to the UM Music Store, they can either enter through the home page to begin their search for music or they can enter directly from your artist’s page (i.e., www.ummusicstore.com/yourname). The consumer will simply click the “Buy This CD Now” button and begin the purchasing process. Once the CD is purchased, an email will be sent to notify us that we need to send a CD to the customer or the customer will be directed to a site where they can download the digital version of the album.
 
How do I submit my music?

You would have to sign up as an artist or record label at www.ummusicstore.com and you will be instructed on the process of submitting your music for sale in our Music Store.

What is UM Bootcamp?
UM Bootcamp is a series of online and offline seminars geared towards the development of independent artists. Online, you will be able to go through a curriculum filled with material created by expert, industry professionals as well as view presentation videos that will allow you to become a developed artist. At the end of the curriculum, you will earn a certification from Urban Melodies. Offline, we will host several seminars across the country that will allow independent artists to come and development their knowledge from expert, industry professionals. The seminars will be structured to provide the attending artist access to learn directly from expert, industry professionals that will educate them on establishing, enhancing and empowering their music careers.

Will UM help manage me as an artist?
Urban Melodies currently provides services that assist in managing artists on a wide scale basis, however, we also work directly with artists as a personal management company. In order to be considered as a member of our talent roster, please contact us for more information.
 
I am currently being approached by people who want to manage me, what sort of questions should I be asking?
It is extremely important to have a manager in place to represent and assist in the direction of your music career so we always encourage artists to have a competent manager in place. If you are still looking to work with a manager, we would suggest using our Virtual Manager located at www.ummanager.com to assist in answering questions that can help you build the necessary knowledge needed to hire an effective manager.

At UM Books, we fully encourage knowledge that can assist artists with establishing, enhancing and empowering their music careers. We are always looking for material that can further this mission. How do I submit my music to be played on UM Radio?
As a registered user of UM Music Store, you will automatically be considered into the UM Radio station. If you are a member and do not have your music currently being played, please contact us HERE and make a request.
 
Do I have to be registered to Urban Melodies before I can have my music submitted?

Yes. We use the information, such as, artist name, album artwork, pricing and audio tracks from the current UM Music Store database of artists. Please visit www.ummusicstore.com to register your music to be considered into the UM Radio station.

Can you help me build an artist website?
Absolutely! Our team of designers, programmers and project managers can assist in the creation of a highly effective web presence for your page, band and/or record label. We are also very effective and creative building MySpace pages to allow your page to stand out above the rest.
 
What services do you provide?
Any design services that are essential to marketing and promoting an artists’ career are available. We specialize in CD covers, EPKs, Websites, Flyers, Postcards, Displays, Posters, Business Cards, Media Kits and Video Production. We also outsource printing services that are discounted dramatically for our artists and record labels.
 
How much does it cost?
Since each project is unique, the pricing varies on a per-project basis. However, since we are a full design team, we have some of the best cost per value around. Our prices are geared towards the independent artist so we understand the limited budget available but we also understand the importance of exceptional design materials.

I have songs written, but need help with music, do you provide this?

Absolutely! We work with a vast amount of producers that have the necessary skills to take your written work and create a finished product that you will certainly be proud of. As you might already know, it is important to have your written songs as finished product in order to solicit to artists and record labels. Our producers are fit to assist with your objectives.

 
Will I have access to a studio and a production team?
We have partnered with recording studios and producers from all over the country just so that you have the capabilities you need in order to produce your album.
 
Do I receive a discount for production and recording services for being affiliated with Urban Melodies?

You certainly do! Let any producer or recording studio, that is a part of the Urban Melodies network, know that you are an artist on UM and you will receive a substantial discount.
