Urban Melodies :: The Leading Resource In Independent Urban Music!

I have many artists come to me requesting personal management and assistance with their music careers. Asking me to help get their songs on the radio, get them in a music video and, ultimately, make them a lot of money. I was at home the other day trying to figure out why things have changed so much.

Purpose!

Our music has changed, our goals have changed and our reasons to become successful have all changed. We have forgotten our purpose. I remember listening to R&B music from the 70s and 80s and their music spoke of purpose. They wrote lyrics that were geared towards sweeping their women off their feet or telling their audience what was going on with their lives. Rap music was the same way in the 90s. Artists were interested in delivering a message through their music. There were artists such as The Fresh Prince and Digital Underground that would use their music to make people have fun and just enjoy themselves. Nevertheless, it was always about purpose. Now, I see more artists involved with music for the wrong reasons...money, power, fame and/or recognition.

Before we do anything in our lives, we must ask ourselves one simple question…what is my purpose for this? “I want to get my music on the radio.” What is your purpose? And you must be completely honest with yourself so you can seek the right answer. You should not want to have your song played on the radio so you can have all your friends and family hear that you have a “music career.” Radio is a form of promotion in order to move units and/or create a buzz for your music. It was not created in order to let artists brag to all their friends and family about a song they made.

Here at UrbanMelodies.com, we have artists that request to have their album sold on the website just to be able to say they have an album. Again, what is your purpose to be on UrbanMelodies.com? If you are looking to push units and establish a career in the music industry, we are working hard to give you the resources to do so. But you have to be honest with yourself and know that just because you place your album on our site, you have to promote it to your maximum capabilities.

I, too, ask myself daily, ‘what is my purpose?’ UrbanMelodies.com was created to become a resource for independent urban artists and record labels that are looking to establish a career in the music industry. We have built many resources around our main objective of selling music on our website in order to fulfill this purpose. It is not about the money, but about the substantial impact we can make in the lives of others. There are many passionate artists and record labels that, with the right opportunity, will become a huge success. If our objective is to provide them with the opportunities such as, the ability to sell their albums, communicate with their fans, connect with record labels and industry professionals, and learn more about their industry, then we are becoming a company that has purpose.

When you are planning on making any moves in your life or your music career, ask yourself that simple question and if you are truly honest with yourself, you will see things change for you in a very positive way. Do not make a move without having a purpose for that move. Do not place an ad on a radio station without the expectation of gaining more consumers, do not place your song on the radio without an album to sell in the stores, do not place your album on a website without promoting that album. I can go on and on. Always remember the question of “what is my purpose?” It will amaze you what will happen when you do so!
